There are so many Earth Day related things going on in and around NW Philly this year, that it’s far too many to have enough time to mention them on Planet Philadelphia. Here are just a few. Sat Apr 21 @ 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 11 tree planting events - Philly & suburbs The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society: We all know our neighborhood could use more trees. They offer us cooler homes, shady sidewalks for interchanges with neighbors, increased property values, clean up the air from car exhaust, and more! With over 750 trees being planted this weekend, there are 11 events on this day. Find one near you, and help out in any way you can... digging, planting, pruning, watering, delivering food & water for the teams, and even taking photos! If your home or block lacks street trees, start thinking about a fall planting. The trees are free to you, as are the volunteer-led plantings like these. What’s not to like? Saturday, April 28 Friends of the Wissahickon and the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association for the Annual Creek Cleanup and Talkin' Trash Picnic. FOW will be working with the Philadelphia Canoe Club around the confluence of the Creek and the Schuylkill, while WVWA will be making things nicer upstream.
