​​​Dr. J. Mijin Cha, JD., LL.M. is an Assistant Professor at Occidental College in the Urban and Environmental Policy Department and Fellow at the Worker Institute at Cornell.  Among her publications are “NYC Green-Collar Jobs Roadmap”.  Her work has included interviewing labor groups as stakeholders in discussing “just transitions”.  Dr. Cha will be in conversation with us about her work, her observations, and suggestions for achieving an equitable transition for workers.

​​Peter Handler is the group leader of the Philadelphia Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) as well as a furniture maker/artist.  CCL works with US members of Congress to lobby for climate positive outcomes in a bipartisan way.  Peter will be discussing his experience with labor groups while working on CCL goals in addition to some of the recent work of the CCL Chapter.​​

Alexandra Kroger is Energy Program Director at the Energy Coop, a Pennsylvania renewable energy cooperative, and previously worked in New York City government at a policy level.  She will be talking about the recent rulings of FERC, an important independent federal agency which regulates interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, oil, interstate pipelines, licensing of liquified natural gas (LNG) plants and building of LNG terminals.  Several of these recent rulings affect renewable energy.

Liz Robinson founded the Energy Coordinating Agency in Philadelphia, and the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (a trade association for energy efficiency in PA and NJ).  She also has helped the Energy Coop transition to renewables, and now is the Director of the Philadelphia Solar Energy Association.  Liz has been our correspondent from Harrisburg (capital city of PA).  She will be reporting on recent governmental actions at the state level that effect energy.

Governmental actions can both constrain and encourage environmentally positive developments in energy.  The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) recent decisions will be having effects on renewable energy across the country as well as Pennsylvania. New approaches to sustainability,  one for businesses and communities, the other based on world-wide research:
•  Karl Schmidt, Professor of Practice in Sustainable Engineering at Villanova University:  He has a long history of working in business settings on sustainability, particularly as director of sustainability at Johnson and Johnson.
•  Dr. Katharine Wilkinson,VP of Communication and Engagement for Project Drawdown: This project does world-wide research on current techniques that are working to lower greenhouse gases and could be scaled up.

Karl Schmidt is professor of Practice in Sustainable Engineering at Villanova University.  He will be discussing modern approaches to sustainability in business settings and how he prepares his graduate student engineers to provide sustainable consulting to businesses and townships.  He is the director of the RISE (Resilient Innovation through Sustainable Engineering) program at Villanova.

Dr. Katharine Wilkinson is the vice president of Communication and Engagement for Project Drawdown.  This project does world-wide research on current techniques that are working to lower greenhouse gases and could be scaled up. Their initial findings came out several years ago and listed 100 techniques.  They have recently published an update, The Drawdown Review, which Katherine will discuss.
