It’s been two years of great reporting on our environment, bringing home how we are all affected by our environment here in Philly and in the world. Celebrate this second anniversary by listening to a Planet Philadelphia with a very special guest, Dr. John Goodenough. He will tell us about the future of batteries to revolutionize energy production and decrease fossil fuel. Hear that and more:

Dr. John Goodenough, inventor of the lithium-ion battery (used in all our smart phones, many electronic home devices, and some electric cars), will discuss his recent announcement of the potential for the first all solid-state battery. This research is so revolutionary that Newsweek described it as having the potential to “save the planet”. Dr. Goodenough is a physicist with joint appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been given numerous national and international honors including the Enrico Fermi Award (2009), and the National Medal of Science presented by President Obama (2011).

Also on this anniversary show, Michelle Kondo of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will tell us about the new collaboration between the Schuylkill Center, CHOP, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, and the USFS. This collaboration will connect primary care pediatric health and wellness with nature and time spent being active outdoors.
