What do our US Senators and Congressmen say about the climate change crisis?

10/23/2018

After the IPCC’s report and it’s urgent warning on the enormous existential threat of climate change, Planet Philadelphia contacted US Senators Robert Casey and Pat Toomey and US Representative Dwight Evans for comments. Both Senator Casey and Congressman Evans kindly responded. Their statements are below. Neither Senator Toomey nor anyone in his office responded.

Picture
U.S. Senator Bob Casey:

“The UN report on climate change’s warnings were stark: we must act now to avoid catastrophic global warming.  Our nation could begin efforts to address climate change immediately but progress is difficult when the Republican majority in Congress denies these changes to our planet are even happening while they line the pockets of our country’s polluters. We need to take swift action to address the forces plaguing our environment so we can begin to counteract the dangerous effects outlined in this report.”

U. S.
Congressman Dwight Evans:

“The latest climate report is alarming and shows the need for more action. One of the most important actions Philadelphians can take is to VOTE on Nov. 6! I always say that the most important title is not ‘congressman’ – it is your title of ‘citizen.’”

  • If our Founding Fathers were alive today they could be charged with felonies according to PA Senate SB 652. Jenn Quinn, Legislative and Political Director of the Sierra Club Pennsylvania, and  Elizabeth Randol, ACLU Pennsylvania Legislative Director talk about this legislation.
  • Christine Knapp, Director of Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability has some breaking green news on Philly’s efforts to combat climate change and the local perspectives on the UN’s recent report Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and what Philly is doing about it.

And environmental news from Linda Rosenwein.

The youth’s assertion is that “If your government is harming you, then it’s up to the courts to step in and tell them to stop.” October 29this the trial start date.
