Here's what’s happening on the next Planet Philadelphia: Can we have a better future even with climate change: Congressman Dwight Evans has served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 2nd congressional district since 2016, after serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 203rd district in Philadelphia for a number of years. He will address the changes we will all need to make to survive and thrive with the extreme climate change challenges as outlined in the UN’s IPCC report. Fighting for a future free from fracking: New York state banned fracking in 2014. The award winning documentary film, UNFRACTURED, produced and directed by Chanda Chevannes, tells this dramatic story by following introspective biologist and mother Sandra Steingraber. Sandra and Chanda talk with host Kay Wood about how it all happened and why Sandra devoted so much of her life to the struggle. Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized authority on the environmental links to public health. Chanda Chevannes is an award winning Canadian filmmaker, writer and educator. About: Planet Philadelphia is an environmental radio show produced and hosted by Kay Wood along with assistance from reporter Linda Rosenwein, broadcast 4:00-5:00 p.m. the first and third Friday of every month. After the IPCC’s report and it’s urgent warning on the enormous existential threat of climate change, Planet Philadelphia contacted US Senators Robert Casey and Pat Toomey and US Representative Dwight Evans for comments. Both Senator Casey and Congressman Evans kindly responded. Their statements are below. Neither Senator Toomey nor anyone in his office responded. U.S. Senator Bob Casey: “The UN report on climate change’s warnings were stark: we must act now to avoid catastrophic global warming. Our nation could begin efforts to address climate change immediately but progress is difficult when the Republican majority in Congress denies these changes to our planet are even happening while they line the pockets of our country’s polluters. We need to take swift action to address the forces plaguing our environment so we can begin to counteract the dangerous effects outlined in this report.” U. S. Congressman Dwight Evans: “The latest climate report is alarming and shows the need for more action. One of the most important actions Philadelphians can take is to VOTE on Nov. 6! I always say that the most important title is not ‘congressman’ – it is your title of ‘citizen.’” Listen to Planet Philadelphia 4-5 PM the first and third Friday of the month
