Germantown Community Radio serving the Northwest neighborhoods of Philly. Radiating form the center of Germantown to Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy to Nicetown, East Falls to West Oak Lane and beyond.

Dear G-town Radio Friends,

We cannot thank you enough for your support of G-town Radio in previous years. We’re kicking off our year end fund drive and hope we can count on you again.
Donate Now
In January 2020, our founder Jim Bear stepped down from his role as general manager at G-Town Radio. We thought navigating without Jim at the helm was going to be our biggest hurdle of 2020. Boy, were we wrong!

When the city of Philadelphia issued the stay-at-home order in March, we understood G-town Radio would be a community asset that could keep us connected. A skeleton crew of volunteer programmers continued coming to the studio to provide live programming, while others quickly set up home recording, and learned audio editing and Zoom so we could continue to provide weekly original and locally-produced shows. While our neighborhood hunkered down, your neighbors, friends, family members—the people who make up G-town Radio—kept you company with local news, diverse playlists, and stories from our community. We kept broadcasting!

The COVID-19 red phase restrictions were only the start to our 2020. We navigated citywide curfews, the Maplewood Mall renovation project, and—oh, how could we forget—our antenna was struck by lightning. We kept broadcasting!

We’re so proud of what we were able to accomplish this year. But there’s an enormous amount of work ahead of us too. Keeping our community of volunteer programmers safe meant we needed to invest in new technologies and additional cleaning supplies. Plus, when lightning struck our antenna in July, it led to another surprise expense. Our small budget didn’t plan for the unexpected costs 2020 had in store for us.

We also have big dreams for 2021. We want to document even more stories from our Northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods, and we hope to launch a new website so that you can better connect and engage with us. But we won’t be able to make our vision a reality without you.

That’s why we’re writing today to ask you to make a donation, of any size, towards our end-of-year fund drive. Your donation right now will keep us going and growing into the new year. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by December 31. We won’t make it without you!

When you make a gift to G-Town Radio, you:
  • Show love to your amazing neighbors who have responded to a difficult year in meaningful ways—leading conversations about racism and injustice, providing comfort or escape with their music and musings, or offering critical information to keep us safe.
  • Cover the growing costs of music licensing fees, rent on the antenna site, and insurance policies, studio rent, and equipment replacement that keep us operating.
  • Protect our airwaves and media from commercial, capitalistic powers.
  • Sustain and develop great, original programming that you won’t find anywhere else.
  • Keep local news and community discussion alive.
  • Help us continue documenting the many stories of Germantown.
  • Ensure that when our community can be together again in-person,G-Town Radio will be there to record the celebration.
  • And much, much more!

Thank you for supporting your local radio makers
