Peter Winslow will give us up to date analysis on what is happening at PES (Philadelphia Energy Solutions) the largest refinery on the east coast. There was a fire and closure in June, then more poisonous gas releases in July. Peter has been keeping up on all the many moving parts of this important story. He has worked on a Port Development Plan and on projects for the Department of Defense, Carnegie Mellon, Siemens, and Rutgers. A long-term advocate for the environmental and social justice community, Peter has followed developments at PES for a several years. We will discuss what can be done with the facility now and how is the community getting involved. |
Dominic Renfrey is the Advocacy Program Manager for the Center for Constitutional Rights which works on issues across the country. He’s been working with people on the Gulf Coast around Louisiana who are to stop more pipelines in the Bayou and facing the oil industry and their own government that passed a new law making normal protest activities into felonies. Dominic will talk about environmental justice challeneges in Louisiana and how their organization is addressing these problems across the USA. |
