PODCAST: What Should PA Do With Aging Nuclear Power Plants? Aired 4/5/19

4/7/2019

Listen to the podcast of the Planet Philadelphia, aired Friday April 5th, for a discussion of the major nuclear issues facing Pennsylvanians with Tim Judson, the Executive Director of the Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) along with recommendations from the Analysis of Pennsylvania Nuclear Plants and Available Policy Alternatives memo from Pennsylvania Public Utility Commissioner, Andrew G. Place. In addition, on this show Planet Philadelphia host Kay Wood and assistant producer/reporter Linda Rosenwein discuss some of the important issues being raised about the proposed new liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be built at PGW’s Passyunk plant.

https://www.mixcloud.com/PlanetPhiladelphia/what-should-pa-do-with-aging-nuclear-power-plants-aired-4519/

For those who wish to read more about nuclear power and LNG ,  issues that were discussed in this Planet Philadelphia show, here are some links.

Link to the memo from Pennsylvania Public Utility Commissioner, Andrew G. Place referenced a number of times in this show:  https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5763986-Nuclear-Policy-Paper-PUC-Commissioner-Andrew-G.html

Other links to some articles and testimony about the nuclear plant bailout:

Links to stories about the proposed new liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be built at PGW’s Passyunk plant. PGW is a city owned utility. Natural gas is methane. The LNG is proposed to replace current diesel uses. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. It has a shorter duration in the atmosphere, but it traps at some estimates 86-89 times more heat than carbon dioxide before it degrades.
