Planet Philadelphia environmental radio show 4-5:00 PM Friday 11/6/20:
This show continues our series of interviews about waste.  During the pandemic, waste and trash issues have significantly worsened in some cities, including Philadelphia, although they are always important environmental issues.  We will be emphasizing some significant types of waste:  food and e-waste.
  • Haley Jordan and Helena Rudoffare both in the Philadelphia’s government Office of Sustainability.Hayley is the Program Coordinator of a program to minimize waste and implement policies within the City’s municipal agencies in support of its Zero Waste goals.  Helena is a Program Coordinator of a program working with residents and businesses to achieve Zero Waste and also coordinates several recent food waste initiatives.  They will be talking about waste in general, and several of Philadelphia’s newest waste management programs, with an emphasis on food waste.
  • Jordan Howell is a professor of sustainable business at Rowan University.  He has a joint appointment in the Dept. of Geography, Planning & Sustainability and the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship.  He is the Program Coordinator for the Environmental & Sustainability Studies offerings at Rowan.  Professor Howell has studied the performance of markets for recyclable materials and the history and future of waste management.  He will be discussing the management of e-waste.

This is the first of several interviews we will air this fall about waste and trash, which have proliferated during the pandemic. This first interview shows how dedicated community members can help with trash troubles and neighborhoods.
  • Mathew George, a resident of the Germantown area of Philadelphia, will talk about how he and his fiancé, Bria Howard, addressed the litter around their neighborhood and began to build this project, I Love Thy Hood, into a general community organization devised by and run by the people in the neighborhood.​

•  Sharon Friedman is Professor and Director of the Science and Environmental Writing Program in the Department of Journalism and Communication at Lehigh University. Sharon will be talking about the state of environmental journalism, what makes for good journalism in this area, and how to evaluate environmental media.
•  Liz Robinson is the founder of the Energy Coordinating Agency and the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance. Liz has been our correspondent from Harrisburg (capital city of PA). She will be reporting on the environmental/climate platforms of our presidential candidates and of our state legislature.
