11/16/2019

There’s a lot at dispute these days over gas infrastructure. Should we build new infrastructure to move highly volatile natural gas liquids through our communities? These important questions discussed on the live Planet Philadelphia environmental radio show aired on WGGT-LP 92.9 FM in Philadelphia and gtownradio.com 11/15/19 with guests:
  • Tracy Carluccio, Deputy Director of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network will tell us what is happening with the LNG terminal that may be built in Gibbstown NJ to export LNG overseas. She will also talk about whether the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) provided meaningful review over the proposed Gibbstown LNG Export facility.
  • Peter Winslow, Future for PES?:  Peter Winslow has followed developments at PES (Philadelphia Energy Solutions, the largest refinery on the east coast) for several years.  This is the next installment is about the fast moving situation at the former PES refinery in the wake of the explosion, fires and closure of the facility. He will give us some understanding of the various thorny issue of what to do with the PES refinery that blew up last June.

Podcast: Hot discussions: Geothermal energy and PES refinery, radio show aired 9/6/19

9/8/2019

Picture

According to Katherine Young, laboratory program manager in Geoscience at the NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab), geothermal energy could be as good as and possibly an even better alternative power source than solar or wind. She spoke with Kay Wood and Linda Rosenwein about possible new uses for an old well understood energy source and how that could be a big part of a low carbon future.

Also on this show:  Exploring what is happening with the ongoing fast moving situation with the PES refinery with Peter Winslow who has followed developments at Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) for a several years. Might geothermal energy be one good new use?

Individual interview:

For those who wish to read more about nuclear power and LNG ,  issues that were discussed in this Planet Philadelphia show, here are some links.

Link to the memo from Pennsylvania Public Utility Commissioner, Andrew G. Place referenced a number of times in this show: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5763986-Nuclear-Policy-Paper-PUC-Commissioner-Andrew-G.html
Other links to some articles and testimony about the nuclear plant bailout:

Links to stories about the proposed new liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be built at PGW’s Passyunk plant. PGW is a city owned utility. Natural gas is methane. The LNG is proposed to replace current diesel uses. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. It has a shorter duration in the atmosphere, but it traps at some estimates 86-89 times more heat than carbon dioxide before it degrades.
